The Smart Droplets project aims to advance Smart Farming Technologies (SFTs) to help farmers better monitor their crops, reduce the use of chemicals such as fertilizers and pesticides, and lower greenhouse gas emissions, supporting the EU Green Deal’s targets for agrochemical reduction. The project introduces an innovative approach to crop care, focusing on open field spraying by enhancing both hardware and software for more efficient chemical application. Central to this approach is the use of Autonomous Retrofit Tractors equipped with a Direct Injection System (DIS), which enables intelligent spraying while safeguarding farmers from hazardous chemicals.  By integrating advanced technologies like Data/AI and Digital Farm Twin systems, Smart Droplets transforms real-time field data into actionable insights. The project will validate these innovations in real-world conditions, specifically in apple orchards and wheat farms, ensuring the replicability and adoption of these digital tools across Europe. In addition, the Smart Droplets Academy will offer annual training on AI, ethics, data, and robotics in agriculture, targeting a broad range of stakeholders from farmers to policymakers.
