The Circular Greenhouse Economy (VattRe) project is exploring effective methods to recycle and treat irrigation water in greenhouses to reduce nutrient discharge into the environment. Recognizing that full water recirculation may not be feasible for all greenhouses, the project also tests ways to minimize excess nutrient release into natural water bodies. By enhancing water management, VattRe aims to lessen the environmental impact of greenhouse production while offering practical benefits, including lower water and fertilizer costs for growers and improved water quality in surrounding ecosystems.

The project emphasizes practical solutions, piloting both recirculation and purification systems at test farms. By collaborating closely with greenhouse operators, VattRe aims to identify economically viable and environmentally beneficial water purification practices, ensuring sustainable greenhouse production for the future.
