The project demonstrates the socio-economic and ecological impacts of the Water, Energy, Food, and Ecosystem (WEFE) Nexus approach at the agricultural production and policy levels in the Mediterranean Regions. FrontAg Nexus will provide a novel concept and approach for improving the adaptation capacity of the farming system to climate change and the livelihoods of the stakeholders in the Mediterranean Region.
The Mediterranean region, a climate change hotspot, is facing numerous difficulties within its food systems. FrontAg Nexus aims to help shape food production by incorporating climate-smart and water-saving technologies, such as hydroponics, aquaponics, recirculating aquaculture, vermiculture, and insect farming for feed and fertiliser.
