Advancing Digital Wheat Farming: Highlights from the QuantiFarm Demo Event in Italy

In late May 2025, the QuantiFarm project reached another important milestone in promoting innovation and sustainability in European agriculture. Our partner Horta S.r.l. organised the “Demo Event Grano Duro” in Italy, dedicated to showcasing how Digital Agriculture Technology Solutions (DATSs) can transform durum wheat cultivation.

The event brought together 20 participants, including farmers, Test Case leaders, agricultural advisors, and representatives from agricultural input companies. This diverse audience encouraged a productive exchange of insights and experiences related to the adoption of digital technologies in farming.

Focus of the Event

The central theme of the event was the presentation of the granoduro.net Decision Support System (DSS)—a smart farming tool developed to support farmers in making informed, data-driven decisions throughout the cultivation process. Through a combination of presentations and field demonstrations, participants explored how the platform can enhance resource efficiency, improve crop management, and promote more sustainable practices.

Key Insights

Participants shared highly positive feedback and offered thoughtful reflections on their experience with the granoduro.net system:

  • Practical value: Farmers noted that the DSS provides concrete guidance to improve production efficiency and reduce input costs.
  • Adoption potential: Many expressed strong interest in expanding the use of such digital tools across their farms.

  • Field engagement: The on-site demonstrations were particularly appreciated, offering participants the opportunity to observe the DSS in real conditions and discuss measurable results.

Future suggestions: Participants recommended extending the duration of future field visits, highlighting the value of hands-on learning experiences.

Moving Forward

The event concluded with an open discussion on the role of digital agriculture in achieving greater sustainability and resilience in European food systems. Participants agreed that solutions such as granoduro.net play an essential role in supporting farmers to respond effectively to environmental, climatic, and economic challenges.

By connecting technology providers, researchers, and farmers, QuantiFarm continues to demonstrate how innovation can drive the transition toward smarter, more efficient, and environmentally responsible farming practices across Europe.
